Sessional Registered Nurse


Applications are invited from suitably qualified individuals to fill the position of Sessional Registered Nurse.

Job Summary

The Nurse is responsible for delivering basic health related services to staff. The incumbent administers first aid, administers medical emergencies, inspects the public health status of the facilities and refers to various medical agencies.

Qualifications and Experience

  • BSc in Nursing
  • Registered with the Nursing Council of Jamaica
  • Certified in BLS or ACLS
  • Have a minimum of three (3) years medical surgical nursing experience
  • Level two (2) certification in Emergency Room Nursing/Critical Care would be an asset
  • Experience would be an asset
      
     

Responsibilities

  • Treats medical and work related injuries;
  • Identifies on-the-job injuries, reports and treats promptly;
  • Identifies, refers/transports ill employees to hospital as necessary;
  • Conducts detailed physical assessments;
  • Administers medications and treatment within legal scope of nursing practice;
  • Visits and evaluates safety at job sites;
  • Identifies workplace hazards and reduced risks;
  • Educates workers in maintaining safe and clean work environment;
  • Conducts regular follow-ups for workers in need of prolonged medical attention;
  • Conducts risk assessment as a means of infectious disease prevention and control;
  • Participates in company programs and activities that may include off site functions;
  • Compiles, prepares and presents where necessary, health and wellness tips/information to be circulation to the general staff;
  • Assists in maintaining an effective and accurate medical record system;
  • Manages and tracks inventory of medical supplies;
  • Works on shift when required;
  • Performs any other work related duties assigned which is consistent with competency, job function and position.

 

Educational requirements

  • Proficient in the use of medical instruments and equipment;
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Excellent observational skills;
  • Compassionate, patient and confidential in emergency situations;
  • Ability to maintain composure and work effectively within groups;
  • Ability to diagnose and make prompt decisions in emergencies;
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
